Access is by a right turn from Kananaskis Trail (Hwy 40) 37 KM (23 miles) south of the TransCanada Highway west of Calgary.
Majestic Mount Kidd towers above the Kananaskis River at the bridge, and a clearly signed left turn becomes Centennial Drive which leads to the Kananaskis Mountain Lodge (formerly known as Delta Hotels Kananaskis Lodge).
Park in the large parking area to the right of the hotel entrance. An alternative is to turn right at Terrace Drive and use public parking, at the Mount Kidd Manor far end of Kananaskis Village, near the picnic tables and the large open sports field, to do the Village Rim Trail from Point 5 to Point 1 in a counter-clockwise direction.
From the parking area at the front of the hotel entrance, a sign on Centennial Drive clearly indicates the beginning of the clockwise, Point 1 through Point 5, Village Rim Trail. This may be a better departure location.
Following a short stroll through trees on the paved trail, an informal viewpoint is a good place to look north across the valley to Mount Baldy and east to Old Baldy. The Kananaskis River winds its way through the bottom of the Kananaskis Valley.
Further along, a single bench marks the location of Viewpoint # 1.

Continuing clockwise along the Village Rim Trail, the elaborate Viewpoint # 2 (aka Village Vista Viewpoint) may be occupied by hotel guests who have walked directly from the hotel on the Village Rim Link Trail.
This is a wonderful location for relaxation. On this day, an artist is capturing the incredible view on canvas. It is a place to spend some time absorbing the incredible, sweeping vista of surrounding mountains.

Moving along from Viewpoint # 2 in a clockwise direction, Mount Kidd consumes the view on the route to a pair of benches at Viewpoint # 3.

Mount Kidd on the way from Viewpoint # 3 to Viewpoint # 4 along the Village Rim Trail in Kananaskis Country west of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
From Viewpoint # 3 the route progresses clockwise on paved trail which takes a shallow dip, with a guard rail, through a grove of trees to Viewpoint # 4.
On the way to the final viewpoint, Mount Kidd commands attention and the trail is visible, on the north grassy outlier, which leads to the abandoned fire lookout at the top of the grassy ridge.
Viewpoint # 5 resides at a single bench which, oddly, faces directly into a dense thicket of trees. However, a short walk to the right into the large, well-groomed lawns, which includes the baseball diamond sports field, reveals the final views to mountains south of, and across from, Mount Kidd.
Following the Terrace Trail to the right leads to washrooms, a picnic area between the sports field and the skating rink, and a well-appointed playground a little further along.
It is worth the time to walk into Kananaskis Village Central for a stroll around the pond, and possibly refreshments at the Delta Signature Club. Check out gear and potential future adventures at Kananaskis Outfitters.
