A potpourri of recreation in Kananaskis Country west of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The day begins by locating a 30 meter (98 ft) ice fall named 'Solstice' in the Sibbald Flats area of Kananaskis Country, Alberta, Canada.
The fall is slightly west from popular Sibbald Meadows Pond and Picnic Area along Sibbald Creek Trail (Hwy 68) on the south side of the road with short access over a frozen swamp with minimal elevation above the pond.
The ice climb is visible from the road within a narrow angle of view. Go slow and look for it through the trees. Shortest access is east from Kananaskis Trail (Hwy 40).
Instead of climbing ice as originally planned, the option is exercised to enjoy a light, winter hiking day in a variety of Kananaskis Country locations.
A variety of short hikes in Kananaskis Country locations near the Upper and Lower Kananaskis Lakes provide a relaxing and scenic alternative for the day.
The day ends at beautiful Mount Lorette Ponds beneath 2,487 m (8,160 ft) Mount Lorette.
