    Hi Barry,
I stumbled on to your website. I have been to Banff and Kananaskis Country (KC) several times but I have never hiked in KC. My wife and I are spending a day or two in KC the second week of August on our honeymoon. I would appreciate it if you would recommend the best tent campground to stay at and your top 2 day hikes of 12 miles or less. I’m jealous of all the hiking you are able to do in what I feel is about the prettiest place on the planet.
    Thank you,
    Chris

    • Thank you for your comment, Chris. I get many requests for recommendations, however it is virtually impossible for me to make specific suggestions without knowing many parameters like age, fitness, experience, wilderness experience preferences, etc. My blog is simply my journal of personal experiences. It never was nor will be a hiking guide but there are many good ones. The best advice I can give you is to do preliminary research on Kananaskis Country sites. On arrival, your best source of information will be Park Visitor Information Centers. Weather can always be a factor here, as you know. They will be able to assess your style and ability and make specific recommendations tailored specifically to your needs. They will also be able to eliminate trail closures. They are very good at what they do and long term tactical planning for this region can be disappointing. Strategic planning is always useful. Near term tactical planning is often more effective with plans for contingency. You can check out my ‘Best Hikes’ Post for my opinion on the Kananaskis hikes I have enjoyed the most. I have repeated many of them several times. Some are specific to season. There are hundreds of possibilities within the timeframe you expect to visit. I am exclusively a dayhiker out of my home but I know competition for campground space is intense. Forward planning is advised. There is a reservation system. I do not use the campgrounds so I cannot comment but there is a guide issued annually. Search on ‘Explore Alberta Parks’. My guess is they will send you a guide to assist in your planning. Thank you for your kind words. I am sorry I cannot be more specific.
