The Pioneer Yosemite History Center is a collection of historic structures which were established throughout Yosemite National Park. They were relocated to Wawona in the 1950′s and 1960′s to tell the fascinating story of the park’s growth and development. On return from our hike to the leisurely oasis at Swinging Bridge, Mel and I take the time to conduct an hour-long tour of this very interesting assembly of historic buildings which represent a few of the pioneers responsible for developing Yosemite National Park.

The historical covered bridge crosses the South Fork of the Merced River and allows access to a short circle tour of structures which played a significant role in the developement of Yosemite National Park.

Under overcast skies and a light drizzle, Mel and I stop into the Wawona General Store to check it out and do a bit of shopping. Mel buys his copy of ’ Off the Wall: Death in Yosemite ‘ I already have mine, as well as the publications for Grand Canyon National Park and Yellowstone National Park. They are excellent books for pre-trip research, always entertaining, often tragic, sometimes macabre, but an important source of suggestions for activity to be avoided or places where extreme caution is prudent. At the very least, each is a fascinating read.
