Jumpingpound Loop – Sibbald Creek – Hiking Alberta

The Sibbald Creek recreational area is a 55 kilometre (34.4 mile) drive west from my home in Calgary, Alberta.  I am hiking solo today.

Jumpingpound Loop – Sibbald Creek, Alberta, Canada

Jumping Pound Loop is an east-west 9 KM (5.6 mile) loop in the foothills on either side of Sibbald Creek Trail (Hwy 68).  The south side of the loop follows Sibbald Creek at lower elevation.  The north side of the loop, on the other side of the highway, climbs higher with undulating elevation.  Morning trail alternates between frozen ground and ice.  The afternoon warmth changes this to mud and wet ice.  It is very slippery and requires a lot of off-trail.  The predominant feature is the view of the 7,995 ft. Moose Mountain massif directly to the south. Gross elevation for the Jumpingpound Loop is estimated at 1,500 feet (457 metres).
